Noted for its stunning fragrant long lasting 4-5" maroon wine-red flowers in late spring that grows more impressive as the plant matures each year. Hartlage Wine' is the original clone named after student Richard Hartlage who crossed Sinocalycanthus chinensis (Chinese species) with Calycanthus floridus (U.S. species) in 1991 at the JC Raulston Arboretum at North Carolina State University.
